Mnemosyne

Allow Mnemosyne, the Greek Goddess of Memory to guide you through a variety of sources that will help ease you through your exams.

Mnemosyne recommends the following techniques:

  • The Romans held memory techniques in the highest regard and one of the most popular mnemonics was the Memory Room. The Memory Room involves both sides of the brain as it combines order and precision with imagination and creativity. It combines linking and pegging memory systems by allowing an unlimited number of objects in the room. Each object has a specific location or loci and functions as a link to items that wished to be remembered. Using images stored in the image archive, assign a meaning to each object and then position them in specific areas within the room.

  • Knowledge trees also known as MindMaps are a useful technique as it allows you to order revision in a hierarchical manner. They are an excellent antidote to pages of solid writing and can be arranged to chunk information into manageable memory bits. The central image is a trunk representing the topic area with the offshoots of branches representing the relevant chunks of information. See the knowledge tree below as an example.
